A Guide to Seoul’s Districts
First, I’d like to talk a little about Seoul. Seoul, the capital of South Korea, covers an area of approximately 605㎢, making it somewhat smaller in size than New York City or Singapore. The Han River, a vast river that flows through the heart of Seoul, divides the city into two distinct areas. The city is divided into 25 administrative districts, called as “Gu”. One of the most familiar names, “Gangnam,” is actually the name of one of these 25 districts. As you travel around Seoul, you’ll come across many different neighborhoods and districts. I’d like to briefly introduce some of the areas you’re most likely to encounter during your trip. The numbers I’ve assigned to each area are based on my personal opinion. Relatively lower numbers indicate areas with more famous landmarks, tourist attractions, and major shopping or commercial districts while higher numbers indicate primarily residential and living areas. 1.
